There’s a new way to sweat off the sugar plums — FitCycle Studio in the Sportsplex@Fairfield.

The town’s newest spinning studio officially opened its doors Thursday at a ribbon-cutting with First Selectman Mike Tetreau, Fairfield Chamber of Commerce President Beverly Balaz and Economic Development Director Mark Barnhart.

“We opened thinking we need a spinning studio in town with really high, upbeat energy,” said co-owner Kerry Manning. “We have the best instructors.”

Manning and her husband Rob Manning teamed up with longtime friends Joe and Sarah Oppedisano to give the former art studio a new look with row upon row of state-of-the-art bikes and a sleek black and blue interior.

For the last seven years, Joe Oppedisano has owned Fit Club, a gym and fitness center housed just next door in Building B of the ever-busy Sportsplex.

“We always wanted to open something together,” Oppedisano said.

FitCycle offers a range of classes geared to performance and rhythm cycling and Oppedisano welcomes beginners and advanced riders alike.

Classes begin with a commuter-friendly 5:30 a.m. ride and also include combo workouts such as a ride followed by a walk over to Bar Method for a whole different type of exercise. With warmup and cool-down, most classes run about 50 to 55 minutes.

FitCycle provides lockers, bathrooms and showers for riders, who can also rent cycling shoes or wear their own sneakers.

Rob Manning said he enjoys the way instructors push riders while still allowing them to set their own pace.

“And I love the fact that you get your cardio, but without the impact to your knees,” he said.

Tetreau said he was pleased to welcome another fitness business to the Sportsplex, now home to so many different kinds of gyms catering to active lifestyles.

“There isn’t a better place,” he said. “I hear people talking about it when thinking of moving to town.”

FitCycle is located at 85 Mill Plain Road. For more information, visit fitcyclestudio.com, call 203-955-1901 or e-mail info@fitcyclestudio.com.
