FAIRFIELD, Conn. โ€” Town leaders hope to create a vision for future development around the Fairfield Metro train station, thanks to a $200,000 state planning grant.

The Connecticut Office of Policy and Management gave Fairfield the grant to look into options in the Commerce Drive area.

โ€œSince its opening, Fairfield has made steady progress in capitalizing on the centerโ€™s potential as an engine for economic growth,โ€ said First Selectman Mike Tetreau. โ€œYoung people and businesses place a high value on walkable, transit-oriented communities, and we need to be meeting that demand.โ€

State Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey supported the townโ€™s request for funding.

โ€œThese funds provide a tremendous opportunity for Fairfield to partner with community stakeholders, private developers and local residents to build on successful development in the area, such as the newly opened Trademark Apartments,โ€ McCarthy Vahey said.

Fairfield received $750,000 through the OPM program in 2016 to replace 3,000 feet of sewer lines near the train station.
