Shelton Ushers In The Holidays With Tree Lighting, Handmade Market

SHELTON, Conn. -- Shelton is inviting one and all to enjoy the annual Community Tree Lighting, which kicks off the town's holiday festivities for the season.

The event will be held  at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Shelton on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.

Celebrate Shelton is organizing this event for the third year in a row. It will include special performances as well as a visit by Santa Claus himself. He will be available to meet kids, hear their requests and take photos.

The event is free and open to all. The Community Tree Lighting is sponsored by Celebrate Shelton, City of Shelton & the Valley Community Foundation.

Also starting this weekend is the Downtown Handmade Market, which will be held the next three Saturdays – Dec. 3, Dec. 10, and Dec. 17 — from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Held in the Conti Building at 415 Howe Ave., the market offers a variety of unique and handmade gift items, including candles, soap, clothes and homegoods. Admission is free.
