Former Gov. Rowland Set To Be Released From Prison Early

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Former Gov. John Rowland is set to be released early from prison, where he is serving time after being found guilty in 2014 of conspiracy, campaign fraud and obstruction of justice, according to the Connecticut Post.

Rowland, 60, a Republican, served as governor from 1995 to 2004, when he resigned in the wake of a corruption scandal. He served 10 months in prison and four months of house arrest after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, tax fraud and mail fraud in that case.

In 2014, Rowland was found guilty of hiding the fact that he secretly worked for GOP congressional candidate Lisa Wilson-Foley in 2012 and accepting illegal consulting fees. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison, but is set to be released from a minimum security prison in Pennsylvania after 19 months, according to the Connecticut Post.

A Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson confirmed to the Connecticut Post that Rowland's release date has been moved up to May 27, 2018, but did not offer specifics. It is unknown if Rowland will live in a halfway house after being released, the Connecticut Post reported.
