FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — It was a busy week in the news around Fairfield County. Top stories at the Daily Voice ranged from a fatal plane crash and a fatal motorcycle crash to the recovery of a child who nearly drowned and a baby who survived 45 minutes in a hot SUV.

Here are the top stories of the past week, in case you missed it: 

Guilherme Rola, a 20-year-old from Danbury, was killed in a motorcycle crash on South Street near the Bethel border, police said. 

Kathryn Ferguson, a 34-year-old New Canaan mother, was charged with risk of injury to a child after she left her 11-week-old baby alone in a hot SUV for 48 minutes last month while she went shopping, buying shoes and a large mint lemonade, police said.

A 5-year-old New Canaan boy who was pulled from a pool at Chelsea Piers in Stamford after nearly drowning was released from the hospital after what police said was a "miracle" recovery. The boy had been underwater for nearly four minutes while at a summer camp. 

Latrel Baker, a 20-year-old from Bridgeport, was the second person charged with manslaughter in connection with the April 30 death of Victor Diaz, police said. Diaz, 26, was assaulted by several friends and suffered an asthma attack, which proved to be fatal, police said. 

Jung Courville, a Norwalk mother of two who has lived in the U.S. for 18 years, has been ordered deported to her native Korea at the end of the month. She has been married to a U.S. citizen for 14 years and cares for her two U.S.-borne children, one of whom is disabled. But the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ordered the woman, who is undocumented, to leave the country by the end of September.

Most of the high schools in Fairfield County got high marks in a new ranking of the best high schools in Connecticut by the website Niche.com. Which school came out on top? New Canaan High School. How did your school rank? 

Bye-bye Bluefish: It's the end of an era as the City of Bridgeport announced the selection of developers and operators to transform Harbor Yard from a minor league baseball stadium into a state-of-the-art amphitheater. A $15 million renovation was announced, along with a plan to host 25 concerts a year there, along with home and flower shows, high school graduations, Greater Bridgeport Symphony events and more.

The boys on the Fairfield American Little League team are heading to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., after routing Maine, 10-0, to win the New England championship.

Seven juveniles were arrested after leading police on a chase in a stolen car from Westport to Norwalk before crashing it on the Route 7 connector overnight Wednesday, police said.

An underage female student pilot was at the controls when a plane crashed in New Milford, killing the 57-year-old flight instructor and injuring herself and a passenger, police said. The rented plane had taken off from Danbury Airport. 

A woman is dead and two pedestrians were “severely injured” after a driver fled from a State Trooper on Interstate 95 and sped down Bridgeport streets, causing a fatal crash, police said. Joseph Guzman-Rivera, 21, of Bridgeport, was arrested on multiple drug charges and more charges were expected. 

An 18-year-old Bridgeport woman who said she was sexually assaulted on a walkway at Jennings Beach in Fairfield told police she made up the story after a police investigation determined she was not even in Fairfield that day, police said.

The Granola Bar, with locations in Westport, Greenwich, and Stamford, is expanding to Westchester with new restaurants planned in Armonk and Rye, N.Y. Westport moms Julie Mountain and Dana Noorily started the popular and down-to-earth restaurant chain.
