SHELTON, Conn. — Splash of Shelton will join more than 2,800 car washes internationally in offering free car washes to military veterans and active duty personnel on Wednesday for Veterans Day.
This year, the International Carwash Association has agreed to sponsor Grace for Vets, a program created by founder Mike Mountz. Started in 2004, the event has grown to include car washes in several countries, including Canada and Australia, said Paul Clark, a marketing representative for Splash.
“It’s just a tremendous thank you for our veterans and service men and women,” he said. “We’ll probably have a line.”
Splash will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Clark said many other area locations will also participate.
To qualify, veterans should bring an ID, Clark said, though some just arrive in a regulation hat or a full uniform.
Mountz, who has retired from the industry, worried Grace for Vets might be retired with him.
“I’m thrilled to see Grace for Vets continue with the support of the ICA,” he said.
ICA President Gary Dennis was happy to help continue the program. “We are so pleased to be involved with Grace for Vets,” he said. “It is such a great program and has done so much to publicize our industry’s philanthropy and support of our military.”
Grace for Vets washed over 230,000 cars for free during the 2014 event.
