Carlson was born in Elizabeth, N.J., on March 14, 1926 to Peter and Helen (nee McKeon) Stranko, graduating from Roger Ludlowe High School and New Haven Teachers College.
She went on to teach nursery school and eventually had a long career in retail sales at Read's (now Macy's) Department Store.
Carlson was predeceased by her parents and husband, and is survived by two daughters, Karen Young and her husband Eric of Concord, Mass., and Pamela Rizzo and her husband Ron of Pompton Plains, N.J., two grandchildren, brother Peter Stranko and his wife Doris of Fairfield, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, located at 399 White Plains Road in Trumbull.
A memorial service will be on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Nichols United Methodist Church, located at 35 Shelton Road in Trumbull.
