Ronald F. Richard Jr., 48, Avid Outdoorsman From Shelton

SHELTON, Conn. — Ronald F. Richard Jr., an avid outdoorsman from Shelton, died Dec. 9. He was 48.

He was born in Newport, R.I., and was a longtime area resident. He worked in fiber optics as a telephone/cable splicer. He who loved to fish, hike, camp and bike. He also enjoyed listening to classic rock, jazz and blues music. 

He struck by a car and killed at the entrance to a hiking trail on Shelton Avenue, police said.

He is survived by his wife Amy Briones Richard of Shelton; two children, Melissa and her husband Ernest Kissi of New Britain and George Richard of Shelton; his parents Ronald F. and Patricia Richard Sr. of Stratford; two sisters Dawn Godin of Shelton and Catherine Corris and her husband Ronald of Torrington; two brother-in-laws Alan Briones and King Briones, both of Shelton; and several nieces and nephews. 

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Toys for Tots.
