Aairon Ronearl Thompson, 34, was arrested Tuesday for drug and motor vehicle offenses, which stemmed from an investigation that began months earlier, said Det. Lt. Mark Williams.

The investigation was initiated after investigators received citizen complaints regarding Thompson’s illegal activity. Based on a further investigation, which revealed activity consistent with drug trafficking, on May 2, the Superior Court issued a search warrant for Thompson and his cellular devices, Williams added.

On May 8, while investigators attempted to execute the search warrant Thompson avoided apprehension by recklessly fleeing in a car. Prior to fleeing, investigators witnessed a drug transaction between Thompson and a well-known drug user, who was stopped minutes later, police said.

When investigators detained the known drug user, the person dropped three pieces of crack cocaine and $50 from the transaction they made minutes earlier with Thompson. Based on the findings and Thompson’s flight, investigators were issued additional search warrants and an arrest warrant for Thompson’s arrest.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., investigators from the Special Investigations Division and Patrol took Thompson into custody at his place of employment, Action Auto Rentals, 30 Newtown Rd., Danbury, Williams said.

Upon taking him into police custody, Thompson tossed a quantity of crack cocaine to the ground in an obvious attempt to separate himself from the contraband he was possessing. Based on the execution of the search warrants, Thompson was charged with the possession of a controlled substance.

Thompson was charged with possession of a controlled substance, the sale of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, and reckless driving.

He is being held on $50,000 bond and another $10,000 bond on the possession charge.
