Police told the Connecticut Post that when they responded to the Quality Suites in Stratford on Monday on a report of a disturbance, they found 39-year-old Noel Kayo, who had been pepper sprayed. Kayo is a cardiovascular researcher who has been on the Bridgeport Ethics Commission since August, the Connecticut Post reported.

Kayo told police that he had arranged to meet a prostitute at the hotel after contacting her online, according to the Connecticut Post. When he arrived, he found 20-year-old Linda Pena of Stratford, who he thought was the prostitute, according to the Connecticut Post.

Pena told police that she was at the hotel because she had previously agreed to pose nude for a photographer in exchange for money, and the photographer had told her to meet an associate of his at the hotel to get her payment, according to the Connecticut Post. When she saw Kayo, she thought he was the associate she was supposed to meet, according to the Connecticut Post.

She got into Kayo's car, and the mistaken identities led to an argument, with Pena demanding her money and Kayo demanding his services, the Connecticut Post reported. Pena told police that she thought Kayo was going to sexually assault her, so she pepper sprayed him in the face, according to the Connecticut Post. He boyfriend, 19-year-old Tyler Purcell of Stratford, was nearby and saw what happened, and then ran over and also pepper sprayed Kayo, according to the Connecticut Post.

Police eventually arrived and spoke to all the parties. Pena and Purcell were charged with third-degree assault and released on promises to appear in court, according to the Connecticut Post. Kayo was charged with patronizing a prostitute, and was also released on a promise to appear in court, the Connecticut Post reported.

When contacted by the Connecticut Post, Kayo said that he had tried to help Pena, who he said told him she lost her wallet and needed a ride. At that point her boyfriend came up to him and tried to rob him, he told the Connecticut Post. He said he would argue his case in court, and he did not plan on resigning, the Connecticut Post reported.
