Bradley Commerford, of Derby, was identified as a suspect after the U.S. attorney’s office, the Drug Enforcement Agency's New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, and detectives from the Derby, Shelton, Ansonia, and Monroe Police Departments put together a joint task force to investigate the source of this heroin.
On Wednesday, Fen. 17, the Derby Police Department said it had responded to two sudden deaths from suspected heroin overdoses in 24 hours.
During that timeframe, the Shelton Police Department also responded to two heroin-related medical emergencies.
The investigation found that one of the Derby deaths and both Shelton overdoses were related to the same drug distributor, identified as Commerford, police said.
Unrelated to this investigation, Commerford was also wanted on several violation of probation warrants.
On Thursday, Feb. 18, Commerford was taken into custody on those outstanding warrants.
On Friday, Feb.19, the DEA officers applied for and received a federal arrest warrant charging Commerford with a federal drug charge stemming from the sale and delivery of heroin connected to one fatal overdose in Derby and two non-fatal overdoses in Shelton.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, police said.
