David Habetz, 49, of Derby was charged on June 22 with first-degree illegal possession of child pornography and released on a $15,000 bond, the Easton Courier reported. Easton detectives assisted Derby Police in the investigation, and worked with the superintendent and principal, according to the Easton Courier.

Superintendent of Schools Thomas McMorran told the Easton Courier that the Easton, Redding and Region 9 School District learned about the investigation in March and fired Habetz. McMorran said that Habetz has not been on school grounds since his firing, and that there is no concern that any children in the district were involved in Habetz's activities in any way, the Easton Courier reported.

The district sent out a notice to parents on Friday, informing them of the arrest, according to the Easton Courier. They did not want to say anything publicly until charges had been filed, according to the Easton Courier.
