Multiple 911 calls reported the shooting at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the area of North Main Street and Fourth Street.

Officers found a male victim with a single gunshot wound to his upper body, police said. He was transported to the hospital and was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A black or dark-colored Honda had fled the scene of the shooting, witnesses said.

The Derby Police Department attempted to stop a car matching that description and then pursued it from Derby to West Haven, where the car was involved in an accident, police said.

The driver, the only occupant of the car, was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries from the crash, police said.

A handgun was recovered along the route of the pursuit, police said.

The shooting remained under investigation by the Detective Bureau and Patrol Division, Ansonia police said.

No arrests had been made Tuesday evening, and the names of the victim and suspect were not released.
