Pedestrian Struck, Killed Near Trail In Shelton

SHELTON, Conn. -- A 48-year-old pedestrian man was struck by a car and killed at the entrance to a hiking trail on Shelton Avenue Friday, Shelton police said.

At around 5:15 p.m. police responded to a call of a pedestrian hit by a car near the entrance to the trail. When they arrived, officers found Ronald Richard, 48, of Shelton lying in the road. He was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said.

An initial investigation revealed that a 45-year-old Shelton man was traveling south on Meadow Street and struck Richard as he was crossing the road, police said.

The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident, and no enforcement action has been taken at this time, police said. Any witnesses or people with additional information are asked to contact the Shelton Police Department Traffic Division at (203) 924-1544.
