Police Identify 21-Year-Old Man Shot To Death In Derby

DERBY, Conn. — A 21-year-old man found shot on a Derby street overnight died of his wounds Friday morning, police said. 

Derby police have identified the victim killed in an overnight shooting as a 21-year-old man from Naugatuck.

He has been identified as Jajuan Benavides of Naugatuck, police said. 

At 1:49 a.m. Friday, Derby Police responded to the area of Anson Street and Fifth Street on a report of shots fired. Some 911 callers indicated that someone had been shot, police said. 

Officers found Benavides unresponsive on Anson Street with gunshot wounds, police said. Emergency Medical Services responded, treated and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:40 a.m., police said. 

The Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit is assisting Derby Police with the investigation.
