NEWTOWN, Conn. – Newtown police have charged a Shelton man in the death of a 90-year-old man in a head-on two-car crash on Sunday night, police said.
Miguel Barragan-Santiago, 33, was charged with second-degree manslaughter and misconduct with a motor vehicle and held on $450,000 bond.
The crash occurred at 8 p.m. Sunday, and Henry Petrucelli of Brookfield was killed instantly when his Honda Civic was hit by the suspect's pickup truck .
Petrucelli was northbound on South Main Street when he was hit by Barragan-Santiago's pickup near 292 S. Main St., police said. Barragan-Santiago was taken to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Petrucelli was declared dead at the scene of the crash, police said.
Barragan-Santiago's bond was so set high because the Mexican immigrant was considered a high flight risk, according to the News-Times. He is due to appear in court on April 19.
