SHELTON, Conn. — A Shelton man and a Berlin woman recently were arrested for allegedly possessing forged fishing licenses.

Bradford L. Benton, 47, of Shelton, and Kelly N. Shemeth, 24, of Berlin, were spotted fishing April 18 by a police officer of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation.

The officer conducted a fishing compliance check, which allegedly revealed neither Benton nor Shemeth had purchased valid 2016 fishing privileges and possessed a document in the format of the 2011-style of fishing license.

Both Benton and Shemeth surrendered themselves to the Connecticut State Police Barracks Troop A June 1 after the Meriden Superior Court issued arrest warrants. They were charged with second-degree forgery, second-degree conspiracy to commit forgery and fishing without a license.
