SHELTON, Conn. — A shirtless man shot his neighbor’s landscapers with a pellet gun Thursday because he was trying to sleep and they were too noisy, police said.

Shelton officers called to Tuckahoe Drive around 10 a.m. found the landscapers who showed them injuries they sustained from the man with a rifle they saw at the window of a neighboring home, police said.

Officers went to the home and found 48-year-old Jeffery Pate, who told them he was trying to sleep and was upset that the landscapers were making too much noise, police said.

“Pate then shot the landscapers with his .177 caliber pellet gun rifle, striking them several times,” according to Det. Richard Bango.

Pate was arrested and charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace.

He was released on $500 bond and given a court date of Oct. 3.
