A trooper from Troop A in Southbury was patrolling Route 8 northbound near Exit 35 around midnight when he saw the dog crossing the median. The trooper tried to rescue the dog, but it ran down the highway and headed for I-84. Other troopers were soon called to the scene, and a foot chase ensued.

The animal ran down Route 8 toward the interstate and stopped in the upper deck eastbound lanes of I-84. Two tractor-trailer trucks and troopers stopped traffic, and troopers were eventually able to corral the wayward pup. The dog was eventually turned over to its owners, state police said.
