BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A judge has ordered the Bridgeport Board of Education to pay $60,000 after ruling that the board and the principal of Jonathan Winthrop School failed to take action after a teen girl reported that she was sexually assaulted in 2013, according to the Connecticut Post.

The girl in question was 13 years old at the time of the reported assault, which took place in May of 2013, according to the Connecticut Post. She had been in the cafeteria when another female student pulled her hair and touched her breasts, and although her mother reported to principal Selena Morgan, no action was taken, according to the Connecticut Post.

The girl reported that a few days later the same girl sexually assaulted her again, according to the Connecticut Post. She reported it to a teacher, who sent an email to Morgan, according to the Connecticut Post. A few days later her parents contact the police, as well as the state Department of Children and Families, the Connecticut Post reported.

Her lawsuit argued that she suffered emotional damage due to the assaults, and that Morgan was aware of the assaults but took no action, which put the girl in a position where she could be assaulted again, according to the Connecticut Post.
