Edmund "Eddy" Conklin, 17, who was killed in a rollover crash on Bridgeport Avenue, was a star basketball player at Shelton High and planned to study biomedical engineering in college.
His father, Ed Conklin, said they have been trying for two months to persuade the high school to award an honorary degree to their son in the hopes of gaining closure on his death, NBC Connecticut said.
Superintendent Chris Clouet said the district had no comment except that it is working with the family, NBC Connecticut said.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Eddy Conklin Scholarship Fund to benefit students at Shelton High School, ℅ 120 Meadow St., Shelton, CT 06484.
Eddy, who was 6-foot-6, was a varsity basketball player and had also played JV baseball. He enjoyed playing “Call of Duty,” was a daredevil and had a great sense of humor, according to his obituary. He also loved fishing and all outdoor activities.
