"I am very confident that he is the leader that Shelton needs to continue our improvement in student achievement and to lead Shelton to the next level of progress,” said Mark Holden, Board of Education chairperson.
Clouet is expected to begin as superintendent in January.
Clouet comes to Shelton with 32 years as an educator, beginning as a classroom teacher, then serving as vice principal and principal and working most recently as a superintendent of schools in Connecticut and New York.
He has a doctorate from Columbia University and graduate degrees from Brown University and Fairfield University. He is a bilingual educator who understands the importance of preparing Shelton students for a global society.
Nearly 300 parents, teachers, administrators, support staff and community members contributed to the search process through surveys and focus groups, and provided their perspectives in helping define the qualities of an ideal superintendent for Shelton. The Board of Education used this feedback as it reviewed applications, developed questions and made the final decision.
The search process was an extensive one. There were over 15 inquiries and nine candidates who submitted applications, none of whom were internal candidates. The Board of Education conducted several rounds of interviews, including examining writing samples and observing candidates making a presentation. This was followed by extensive reference checks and a background check.
