Danni Kemp, 19, starred at Foran High High School in Milford and played last year at Stony Brook University on Long Island, where she cracked the starting lineup as a freshman. She also played last summer for the Brakettes.
"With a broken heart and tremendous pain. I wanted to let everyone know that Danni has passed away. She passed peacefully in her sleep early this morning surrounded by her loving family. We all are in shock and wanted every one to know that she fought to the very end, never complained and had her humor to the very end. I will keep you all informed as we make plans for Danni. #dannistrong #dipgsucks," Bradley Taylor wrote on the Danni Kemp Cancer Support Group Facebook page.
Because of the location of the tumor, doctors determined it was inoperable. Kemp started radiation therapy in August.
Kemp was honored with the Chelsea Cohen Courage Award by the Fairfield County Sports Commission in October.
She is survived by her parents, Clifford and Melinda, and sister, Alyssa. Funeral arrangements are pending.
