FAIRFIELD, Conn. — First Selectman Mike Tetreau will appear on “PBS NewsHour Weekend” this Sunday to discuss the impact of GE’s decision to leave Fairfield for Boston and the impact of state aid cuts to the town.

In an interview taped in Town Hall Jan. 4, Tetreau said he discussed the expected $3-4 million cuts to state municipal aid and the $1.6 million that GE had paid in property taxes, as well as the positive impact of Sacred Heart University moving into the former GE headquarters.

"In the long run, that will be a tremendous benefit to the town," he said Thursday.

The show will air at 5 p.m. on PBS station CPTV4U. In some parts of Connecticut, it will also air on PBS’s New York City affiliate station WNET/THIRTEEN at 6 p.m.

The hour-long show, “Cross Border Business: States Compete to Attract and Retain Companies,” will be hosted by PBS NewsHour Weekend Correspondent Christopher Booker, who will report on the business tug-of-war between states, and why one Fortune 100 company left one state for another.

The show will take an in-depth look at American companies that have moved manufacturing plants overseas in search of cheaper labor or easier access to raw materials.

In the program, Booker shows American states that find themselves competing with each other to host corporate headquarters or factories and the good-paying white-collar and blue-collars jobs that come with them. In turn, corporations leverage their position to shop around for the best deals and tax incentives to relocate.

“PBS NewsHour” has been broadcast for more than 40 years and is a trusted news source for millions of Americans.
