Clinton resident James Godisken was found guilty by a jury of murder for hire following a nearly two-week trial. At the trial, it was determined that while he was incarcerated at the New Haven Correctional Center Godisken reached out to other inmates to track down a person who would be willing to kill his former wife.
John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, said that between Sept. 10 and Sept. 14 in 2016, Godisken and an ATF special agent who was undercover, spoke over the phone several times. During those conversations, Godisken offered to pay the agent $5,000 to murder his ex-wife and was able to provide him with a description of her, including a phone number and home address. Godisken also offered up his former wife’s employer and the route she took to drive to work.
Godisken, 56, also told the undercover agent how he wanted his former wife murdered. Additional money was offered to the agent if he also killed his ex-wife’s current boyfriend.
The undercover agent arrested Godisken on Sept. 14, 2016, after he met with him and provided him an $80 “down payment,” some of which was to be used to purchase a knife.
Durham said that Godisken has been detained since his arrest. He is due in court for sentencing at a later date, where he will face up to 10 years in prison.
