SHELTON, Conn. -- The Shelton Intermediate School auditorium was filled with hundreds of people recently during a meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission, where many spoke out against the 121-acre Shelter Ridge proposal and zone change, according to the Shelton Herald.

The proposal involves building the Towne at Shelter Ridge upon a 5-million-square- foot lot on Bridgeport Avenue, Mill Street and Buddington Road, according to the Shelton Herald. The developer’s proposal included a 450-unit apartment building with an Olympic-size pool and outdoor fire pits, along with rooftop access, the Shelton Herald said. The property would also include 300,000 square feet of retail space, the Shelton Herald reported.

The zone change would grant developers more freedom with their plans for the property, according to the Shelton Herald.

The public portion of the meeting will continue Thursday, May 31, reported the Shelton Herald.
