SHELTON, Conn. -- A Shelton man was critically injured after an errant tire from a camper trailer smashed through his windshield on Route 8 in Seymour on Sunday, according to CT Post.

Mark J. Smolen, 44, was traveling northbound on Route 8 when the camper trailer lost the tire which crossed the median and hit Smolen's Ford Mustang. Smolen then careened into the right lane and hit another vehicle before flipping over a guard rail and coming to rest wedged between two trees, CT Post reported.

Smolen remains hospitalized at Waterbury Hospital, CT Post said.
