Teens 'Actively Going Through Vehicles' In Parking Lot Caught After Foot Chase, Search

A pair of teens, including one from Fairfield County, who police observed going through vehicles in an area parking lot were taken into custody after attempting to flee from officers, Milford Police said.

The arrests were made overnight at Mariners Walk near East Broadway in Milford.

After receiving a report from an area resident, responding officers observed the two "actively going through vehicles" in the parking lot at around 3 a.m. Monday, they attempted to apprehend the two, who then ran on foot toward a wooded area, police said.

Officers took 19-year-old Rasheed Jackson of Bridgeport into custody after a short foot chase.

A perimeter was set up and a Connecticut state police K-9 unit was called in to assist with locating the second suspect.

Milford resident Jacquez Smith, also 19, was taken into custody a short time later.

The two were each charged with five counts of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, five counts of larceny and interfering with arrest.

Jackson is being held on $25,000 bond. Smith is being held on $40,000 bond.
